The Hike to Chora. Andros, Greece July 22, 2019
Today we used our Lemon Tree tip and hiked from a small village, in between houses, on routes that must have been there for 100’s of years to Chora, the capital of Andros. Ancient looking stone walls, all hand-built, stone by stone. Stairs going up and down. Winding us through olive trees, fig trees, plum trees, walnut trees, orange trees, lemon trees. Again, our hero, figured out the navigation. I would have never found Route 1. Aaron is an expert navigator.
There are springs all over the mountains here. The water is clean and flows out constantly. They are old, older than cars. Older than electricity. Older than bottled water. Older than modernity. We filled up our water bottles like the locals do.
It was a long, sunny, windy hike, approximately 7.2 km. Our destination was Chora, the capital of Andros. We walked all the way to the end of Chora, to the ocean. First, we were greeted by the Queen of All Cats. Then we ate some soulvaka and skewers, Greek salad, sparkling water and Cokes. Then we took a quick dip in the ocean. The water and waves were rough, I only put my feet in. Lavi, too. Mayim got wet all the way and Aaron was his spotter.
It was a magical day. The hike was phenomenal. We saw things we never would have seen if we had not walked all the way. The springs, walls, the in-betweens of homes in the villages, beautiful gates, gorgeous, old, Greek homes, orchards, mama goats, villages so remote, so unique, a dog waiting for his mom, so many olive trees, the vistas, the ocean in the distance, then the near-distance, then right in the water.
Miss you so much.
Love, Eden
